Remarkable Paintings
Remarkable Paintings is Christophe Adrians’ escape, his dream and contemplation. It is his taste, a free taste, not dictated by fashion. Above all, it is a taste for 19th-century Belgian and sometimes Dutch art, which filled the cabinets of art lovers. These are delicate, often small paintings, whose subjects, whether rich or modest, are pretexts for giving pleasure to the eye and arousing curiosity. This curiosity leads Christophe to unearth works by artists of quality who are now forgotten, such as Louis Desprets and Elvire Coisne, or to create collections of artists renowned in the 19th century, such as Louis Voordecker and Eugène Verboeckhoven. His curiosity also led him, as an extension of his taste for Romantic painters, to the works of the Belgian school of the first third of the 20th century, which sought to remain traditional while modernising through the influence of Impressionism and Fauvism.
